From far and wide, competitors turned out for the ever popular Children's Fun Show. Pre-entry promised a large crowd and we weren't disappointed. The fiercely competitive horse and hound class had record entries and how those little dogs can jump!! i did notice one or two or the larger dogs preferring to find somewhere nice and shady to observe proceedings but valiently tackled the jumps with a bit of encouragement as seen below. The fancy dress class was, as usual, outstanding in the amount of effort, inventiveness and thought that went in to each costume. Incredible that these horses and ponies allow themselves to be festooned with ribbons and drapes whilst children bounce excitedly around them. A big well done to all who took part. So popular was the show jumping, we couldn't wait for the classes to finish before the start of the gymkhana as time was running away. It is only because we had JUST enough helpers on the day that we managed to prise Jane from the judges caravan to begin the afternoon's fun. A big thank you to Jane and her helpers for all their organisational efforts which resulted in a great finale to the day. Quite a few people requested more gymkhana's. Hmmm, we'll see. It goes without saying that Ware Riding Club couldn't put these events together without the enormous amount of volunteers who give up their free time to help. From the setting up of the rings which starts on a Thursday evening to the breaking down of the show on a Sunday afternoon or evening. Then, of course, are the judges and stewards who come along, always happy to help. To say nothing of all and sundry who simply pitch in on the day, purely because they are there. Without any of these people, Ware Riding Club Shows would be impossible to run, so a huge thank you to all.
