One of the greatest pleasures in participating in the activities of Ware Riding Club is knowing that the time and effort that is put in to running shows not only gives a great deal of pleasure to many people, but that we are able to make a difference to various charitable organisations.
In 2008, Ware Riding Club supported many local charities, but the chosen recipient for 3 Committee members was Heathlands Animal Sanctuary; a registered charity run solely by volunteers, based in Royston, Hertfordshire.
Dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of unwanted domestic pets, they take in dogs, cats, rabbits and some types of caged birds. See http://www.heathlands.org.uk for more details
In 2007 we donated to Wood Green Animal Shelter, The Blue Cross and Doglost. We also raised a considerable amount in aid of the Isabel Hospice with our Sponsored Ride. In 2008 we aim to match, and hopefully exceed the contributions made last year.
This is not achieveable without the support from the many people who turn up to help out at the shows, expecting nothing in return but a fun day out. The committee members who are a dedicated bunch, as are the legions of helpers from the people who prepare and maintain the show ground to those who pick up the litter at the end of each show, and obviously, our enthusiastic equestrians with their entourage. A big thank you to everyone who makes this all possible.
